A cold front, the first in many weeks, swept through the region Saturday evening, bringing showers and cool temperatures with it.
Precipitation totals were mostly under 1/2 an inch, with the notable exceptions of Simi Valley (0.98 inches) and De Luz (0.56 inches). Predictions had called for up to one inch of rainfall leading up to the storm, however, only Simi Valley neared that amount. Foothill and mountain slope locations were generally favored, such as Beaumont (Cherry Valley), Fallbrook, De Luz, and Pinon Hills. Not as consistent were the drier locations, including Riverside, Moreno Valley, Perris, Hemet, and northwestern Murrieta - where totals of less than 0.20 were recorded. Anza did not record any measurable precipitation at all from the storm. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, Jim Sappington reported 0.34 inches. In east San Jacinto, Monty Parrott reported 0.30 inches from the storm - three times that of nearby Hemet (0.10 inches). In East Highland, Peter Michas reported 0.27 inches.
The storm ended a prolonged period of abnormal winter heat and dry weather in the region. Additional storms were expected the following two days. Season-to-date totals continue to trend below average across the region.
