Storm totals: December 12th-13th, 2012

By John C. Toman. Posted December 15, 2012, 3:08 PM.

The first in a series of December storms was the strongest of the year by far, with almost two inches falling in some inland areas, far more than predicted only a day before the storm.

Moreno Valley recorded the most of WeatherCurrents' 19 stations, with 1.85". It was followed by San Bernardino (1.76"), Murrieta (1.71"), De Luz (1.58"), Perris (1.52") and Temecula (1.41").

Because it was the first major storm of the season, the rain was not enough to catch most communities up to normal.

There were several issues with rain gauges during this storm. Lake Elsinore, French Valley and Moreno Valley all experienced clogs. For Moreno Valley and French Valley, backup gauges provided for the correct values for the locations. For Lake Elsinore, the backed up water was poured through the gauge later.

The next rain came quickly on the heels of this storm, falling December 14th and 15th. Another, weaker storm was predicted for Sunday the 16th.

Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates:
