April Heat Waves

Posted April 12, 2008, 6:04 PM.

With this weekend's run at 90°F+ temperatures, here's a look back at some of the relatively rare April heat waves this decade.

In Temecula, where WeatherCurrents has records back to August, 1999, Saturday's high of 89.3°F was the 15th warmest on record. However, some weather station locations set April records (Fallbrook at 92.6°F, Riverside at 97.2°F).

April 25-27th, 2004: These were the hottest April days of the decade, with Temecula recording 101.5°F at the peak, and Murrieta recording 98.8°F. Hemet topped out at 95°F. Temecula, Murrieta and Hemet were the only weather stations in the WeatherCurrents network at the time.

April 27-28th, 2007: This heat wave included the Lake Elsinore station's hottest April day (99.4°F). Lake Elsinore's records date back to January, 2005. Hemet was 99.0°F, Murrieta reached 95.1°F and Temecula recorded 92.6°F.

Other notable April heat occurred on April 25th and 26th, 2000.
