A storm system hit California on Monday and early Tuesday this week, bringing high rainfall to the northern half of the state, with lower amounts in Southern California.
Most WeatherCurrents stations received under 1/2 inch of rainfall, with the notable exception of Simi Valley to the north, where 0.71 inches fell. Precipitation totals between 0.20 and 0.40 inches were most common inland, while the lowest total in the WeatherCurrents network was 0.10 inches in Anza. In East Highland, a very wet total of 1.28 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas), a location which benefited greatly from orographic lift. Just to the west, however, 0.53 inches was reported closer to the central area of Highland (courtesy of Dwayne Anthony) - a significant difference in rainfall over a short distance. In nearby Yucaipa, a similar total of 0.59 inches was reported (courtesy of Don Kramer). In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, a total of 0.47 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington), wetter than any of the locations inside the nearby Temecula Valley interior.
WeatherCurrents' station in De Luz has been experiencing an outage since October 15. The total for Lake Elsinore is considered inaccurate due to ongoing rain gauge problems there and is therefore not included.
