A modest late-season storm ushered in cold temperatures and moderate-to-heavy rainfall across the region Thursday and early Friday, following a mostly-dry April.
A cold cut-off low pressure system off the coast of Point Conception late last week brought widespread showers and gusty winds to Southern California. Precipitation totals in the WeatherCurrents network and associates varied from over an inch of rain in central Murrieta, to as low as 0.04 inches in Anza. Despite the precipitation extremes (both high and low), the majority of locations received totals between 1/2 inch and 3/4 inches. In Yucaipa, 0.76 inches was reported (courtesy of Don Kramer) while in Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 0.58 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington). The bulk of the shower activity took place on Thursday May 4th, although residual moisture lingered over the region for several more days.
Slightly warmer, drier weather prevailed over the weekend, however another cold low is forecast to return cooler weather to the region on Tuesday and Wednesday. A slight chance of showers exists for the region during this time, although precipitation amounts are expected to be light, if any precipitation falls at all.
