A very cold Pacific storm brought extensive rain, mountain snow, strong winds, and in some areas, low elevation snow to the region - the final storm amid a series of storms that hit the region back-to-back during late February.
Storm totals ranged from as high as 1.64 inches in Lake Elsinore, to 0.31 inches in Pinon Hills. The majority of WeatherCurrents stations received totals between 0.8 and 1.5 inches, with the wetter locations being in the Temecula Valley as well as Hemet and Anza to the east. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, a total of 1.37 inches was reported Tuesday-Wednesday (courtesy of Jim Sappington). A total of 0.88 inches was reported in Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer). Perris was on the drier side of the storm with a total of 0.46 inches, as well as Simi Valley to the northwest with 0.67 inches. Wind, cold temperatures, graupel and rain/snow mix were prominent features of the storm on March 1 inland.
Drier, but still cool weather prevailed following the storm, allowing the region its first opportunity to dry out in several weeks. Sub-freezing temperatures were widespread inland over the following several nights. A weak storm brought a return of soggy weather on Sunday, March 5, although precipitation totals were expected to be light.
