A cutoff low brought waves of heavy precipitation to the region early this week, and continues to make a major impact on the region, following two relatively dry months in the middle of the rainy season.

The majority of the precipitation fell during Tuesday, with some showers falling late Monday night and early Wednesday morning in addition. Storm totals for this period ranged from between 0.7 inches to 2 inches in most locations, with the more northern locations such as Simi Valley and Pinon Hills both receiving less than 1/2 inch, while Temecula and nearby Wine Country both exceeded two inches for the storm. The Temecula Valley, foothill communities of De Luz and Fallbrook, and parts of the eastern valleys including Anza all benefited from the storm's bountiful rains early this week, recording more than 1 inch by Wednesday. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 2.07 inches was reported through Wednesday afternoon (courtesy of Jim Sappington). Somewhat drier locations included Riverside, areas near San Bernardino, and WeatherCurrents' stations in Simi Valley and Pinon Hills, far to the north. In East Highland, a total of 0.89 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas) as well as a total of 0.74 inches in Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer). Moreno Valley experienced a rain gauge clog on Tuesday, and storm totals for that station are planned to be corrected shortly.

Additional moisture brought more rain to the region later in the week, drenching an already wet land from the storms earlier this week. Storm totals from Thursday onwards will be posted after that event has concluded. Season totals from the Monday-Wednesday storm are not included in this story, due to ongoing rain affecting season totals since Wednesday.
