A mostly cloudy day today as rain over the coast tries to make its way through a layer of dry air. Most of the rain will stay offshore but beginning late this afternoon or evening it will begin across the Inland Empire. Totals are likely to be disappointing for this dry winter, most likely a 1/4 inch or less, and more like a tenth inch or less south of Riverside in the Perris Valley. Snow levels in the local mountains will be near 6,000 feet. Rain will end Wednesday morning as the storm passes to the south. The dry pattern is expected to immediately return Thursday and Friday, with warmer days and gusty winds elevating fire concerns.
