Storm Totals: January 12th-13th, 2017

By Reginald Stanley. Posted January 14, 2017, 7:26 PM.

Another in the series of wet storms this week brought significant rain to the region, continuing a cool, wet January this year.

Thursday's storm was the fourth of the week, and the wettest of the bunch. Rainfall for Thursday and Friday totaled at between 1/2 inch and just under two inches, with the wettest locations in the valleys. Perris - a normally rain-shadowed location - lead the way with 1.69 inches. This was followed by 1.31 inches at both San Bernardino and San Jacinto. Lake Elsinore, Beaumont (Cherry Valley), Hemet, Moreno Valley and Wildomar also all received over an inch of rain. In East Highland, Peter Michas reported 1.24 inches of rain, and 1.20 inches was reported by Monty Parrott in East San Jacinto. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, Jim Sappington reported 0.79 inches for Thursday and Friday. On the drier side of the storm, Fallbrook recorded only 0.55 inches - atypical for a normally wet location. San Diego's City Heights recorded 0.58 inches, and Riverside's Presidential Park recorded a mere 0.66 inches.

Showers continued into Friday morning in many communities, before giving way to unsettled weather later that day. A final round of showers did bring small amounts of rain to some communities Friday night. The region is expected to dry out for a few days, while remaining seasonally cool. Another storm could be on tap for Thursday next week.
