An unseasonably cold, late-season upper low over Oregon that moved southeast through the Great Basin brought scattered showers, reports of pea-sized hail and even some high-elevation snow to the region Wednesday and Thursday morning.

The bulk of the rain arrived Wednesday afternoon, with residual showers continuing into Thursday morning. There were reports of pea-sized hail in the cities of Beaumont and Yucaipa, according to the National Weather Service as well as Yucaipa resident and contributor Don Kramer. Precipitation totals were highest in and around Beaumont, where WeatherCurrents' station in Cherry Valley recorded 0.96 inches. In nearby East Highland, a similarly high total of 0.93 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas). Totals were also significant in parts of the eastern valleys, where Hemet and San Jacinto recorded amounts of 0.60 and 0.65 inches, respectively. Other communities that reached or exceeded 1/2 of an inch included Riverside (Presidential Park), Lake Elsinore, Moreno Valley, Northwest Murrieta, and French Valley. On the drier side of the storm, communities much further to the north and west received very little rain by comparison. Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, received only 0.01 inch - the lowest storm total in the WeatherCurrents lineup this week. Simi Valley is normally one of the wetter stations in the network. Pinon Hills, in the northern San Gabriel Mountains facing the dry Antelope Valley, received only 0.02 inches Wednesday. To the east, WeatherCurrents' station in Anza recorded only 0.03 inches. Fallbrook recorded an unusually low amount for the station - only 0.08 inches - which is typically one of WeatherCurrents' wetter stations in-line with nearby De Luz. De Luz received a higher amount with 0.33 inches. A total of 0.17 inches was reported in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington), a bit lower than the nearest WeatherCurrents station in South Temecula, which received 0.27 inches.

Dry, sunny weather followed for Friday, although temperatures remain well below normal for this time of year. Yet another chance of showers re-enters the forecast for Sunday. A slight warming trend is predicted to take place over the following days.
