Low snow levels again Wednesday night and Thursday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted February 20, 2019, 8:20 PM.

Another cold low pressure system is bringing showers and mountain snow to the region late Wednesday and Thursday, with potentially low snow levels for the second time this month.

Rain is expected to be somewhat light, similar to the previous cold trough that affected the region. Precipitation amounts in the valleys are expected to be between 0.10 and 0.50 inches. Higher totals, between 1 and 2 inches, are likely in the mountains and favorable foothill locations. Less than 0.25 inches is expected in the deserts. Snow levels are set to drop down to between 2,500 and 3,000 feet above sea level Wednesday night, and will drop even further on Thursday as the trough passes directly over Southern California. On Thursday night, snow levels are forecast to fall to between 2,000 and 2,500 feet above sea level.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the San Diego County Mountains, San Jacinto Mountains and San Bernardino Mountains, which will expire at 1 AM Friday. The Interstate 15 corridor in the Cajon Pass, as well as Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, will both be affected once again. The National Weather Service has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County, which will affect travel on Interstate 5 and Highway 14 north of Santa Clarita. This advisory will expire at 10 PM Thursday night.
