May 16th: WeatherCurrents' First Triple Digit Day of Year

Posted May 17, 2008, 12:04 PM.

The first triple digit day of the year for 2008 was recorded Friday with 101.6°F at the Temecula weather station.

Strong high pressure, low humidities and weak offshore flow drove maximum temperatures into the 90's or above Friday at ten of eleven WeatherCurrents stations in Riverside and San Diego counties.

Many other communities have been close to triple digits during the latest heat wave. Lake Elsinore recorded 99.4°F on Thursday and Menifee Valley topped out at 99.2°F the same day. Hemet recorded 98.8°F Thursday, and Murrieta 98.3°F Friday.

Friday's heat was strongest to the west and south, and weakest to the east. The lowest high of the day was in San Jacinto, which recorded only 89.8°F.

More 100°F days are predicted to be on the way Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Some relief is expected Monday in some locations, and more cooling Tuesday and Wednesday.

In 2007, the first 100°F temperatures were recorded in Lake Elsinore and Menifee Valley on June 13th.
