Following weeks of unusually mild weather for August, high pressure returned to the region and brought high heat and monsoonal moisture with it this week.

Thunderstorms have been mostly confined to the mountains and deserts, but have drifted in and out of inland valleys since Sunday. Most WeatherCurrents stations did not report any measurable rainfall, however San Jacinto received 0.04 inches, nearby Hemet received 0.03 inches, and 0.02 inches fell at the Lake Elsinore station. In Temecula Valley Wine Country, 0.02 inches was reported by Jim Sappington.

Temperatures also exceeded 100 degrees in most inland communities. Lingering monsoonal moisture has kept humidity higher than normal overnight, thereby keeping temperatures uncomfortably warm through the early morning.

The heat wave and associated monsoonal moisture are expected to last through Labor Day weekend, before high pressure weakens and gradual cooling begins.
