Outlook: Storm first, then below normal for the week

Periods of showers and cloudy conditions should mark the first part of the coming week, followed by fair skies and cool temperatures for the rest of the week. Showers were expected to be light on Monday and moderate for Tuesday and Wednesday, with totals ranging from a half an inch to an inch for the three days. The slow-moving low pressure trough is inbound from the north and hasn't tapped any subtropical moisture, although the air mass is not very cold. Snow levels in the local mountains weren't expected to get much below 8,000 feet. Forecasters are keeping an eye on another low pressure trough due to move through on Friday that could also bring some light precipitation. Longer term predictions show temperatures rising back to normal in a week in the inland valleys. Normal is 81°F-83°F in Western Riverside county (from Temecula to Riverside and Lake Elsinore to Hemet), and 77°F-78°F in Fallbrook and De Luz. No Santa Ana wind events, an October staple, were currently predicted in a period that should take us through Halloween. |
