Residents South of Temecula Stranded Again

Posted February 23, 2005, 6:28 AM.

For the second time this year, residents along Pala Road south of Temecula can't go north or south to leave their community. The north way out is closed at Pechanga Creek, where floodwaters have severely damaged the roadway. Pala Road was also flooded yesterday to the south, where there was reportedly three to four feet of running water at a low creek crossing, according to the Pechange Fire Department and a local resident.

News reports are saying the Pechanga Creek crossing will be closed for a week. See The Californian newspaper for more details.

The south Pala Road crossing will reopen when floodwaters recede, which may be today or tomorrow.

Residents of this area were also stranded in early January for a day or so when much the same thing happened. When the south creek crossing reopened, they had to go all the way down to Pala and up Interstate 15 to get back up into Temecula, until the Pechanga Creek crossing was rebuilt.

Viviani Piekutowski and Sue Bram contributed to this report.
