Several storms brought rain, wind and mountain snow to the region this Thanksgiving week, with the first cold front arriving Wednesday, followed by several colder, wetter fronts on Thursday whose remnants continued through Friday and into early Saturday morning.

The first cold front began to affect the region around noon Wednesday, and had mostly finished by late Wednesday evening. Precipitation totals from that storm were fairly consistent across the WeatherCurrents network, between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. Simi Valley recorded the highest amount Wednesday with 0.68 inches. Temperatures started somewhat cool when the cold front arrived, becoming much colder as it passed by the evening, setting the stage for the next cold front to arrive the following morning. Snow levels in the mountains fell to between 4500 and 5000 feet.

A second cold front - much wetter and colder than Wednesday's cold front - swept into the region Thursday morning. A particularly heavy band of rain poured over the region between 9 and 11 AM, followed by several more later that evening. Temperatures struggled to rise at all throughout the day as the region was locked in a cold, windy air mass. Storm totals on Thursday alone were roughly five times more than Wednesday's totals across much of the WeatherCurrents network, excluding the northerly locations of Simi Valley and Pinon Hills, were Thursday's storm totals were far less significant. Storm totals for Thursday through 8 AM Saturday morning were otherwise between 1.5 inches and 3 inches among WeatherCurrents stations and contributors. Snow levels had dropped to around 3000 feet by Thursday night.

Remnants of Thursday's storm system continued intermittently throughout the region over Friday and early Saturday, although totals on the latter two days were hardly significant by comparison. Overall, storm totals from Wednesday through 8 AM Saturday reached as high as 3.19 inches in Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer) and 2.84 inches at WeatherCurrents station in Wildomar, to as low as 1.24 inches in the relatively dry Pinon Hills community in the northern San Gabriel Mountains. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, as well as East Highland, totals of 2.32 inches each through Saturday morning were reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington and Peter Michas, respectively). Storm totals between 2 and 3 inches were the most common in the WeatherCurrents network. Thursday's storm as noteworthy in that the storm was unusually cold for late November - still fairly early in the rainy season, a rare occurrence in Southern California.

Cool, mostly cloudy weather remained for Saturday, as another low pressure system sends rain close to our north, barely skirting Southern California. South of Point Conception, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles Counties have received some rain Saturday, also observed by WeatherCurrents' station in Simi Valley. High pressure will keep the region mostly rain-free through Monday, before another storm is forecast to impact the region beginning late Tuesday. That storm is predicted to be much warmer than the last, with higher snow levels around 7000 feet above sea level. Storm totals for Tuesday-Wednesday are currently predicted to be between 1/2 inch and 1 inch across the Inland Empire and San Diego County, with higher totals in the foothill and mountain communities. Los Angeles and Orange Counties are also expected to receive between 1 and 1.5 inches.
