Spring's first storm due Wednesday

Posted March 28, 2010, 11:41 AM.

A change in the weather pattern is predicted to bring a cold, gusty, winter-like storm our way Wednesday and Thursday.

Following a dry March, the storm could bring the first decent rainfall since February 27th, if predictions hold up.

"It's gonna be a cold storm that could push local snow levels down to 4,000 feet," said Riverside forecaster Matt Shameson, in this Inland Empire News Today story. "It could bring significant rainfall."

Timing and intensity are still uncertain, but up to a half of an inch or more of rainfall is predicted, much of it currently expected on Wednesday night.

Showers and a chance of thunderstorms should follow Thursday as the front exits the area.

The last major April storm occurred on April 20, 2007. That storm dumped 0.80" in Fallbrook, 0.61" in Temecula, 0.51" in Murrieta, 0.36" in Lake Elsinore, 0.35" in Riverside and 0.26" in Hemet.

The rain season largely fizzled out in March after racking up strong totals in December, January and February. Totals are still ahead of normal, but not as significantly.
