Upcoming heat wave may bring widespread triple-digits this week

By Reginald Stanley. Posted August 28, 2022, 2:50 PM.

A strong upper ridge is forecast to build over the region this week and remain in place through the following weekend, bringing a strong possibility of widespread high heat and triple-digit temperatures.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch from Tuesday morning through Sunday evening for all of Southern California below 6,000 feet next week. The primary concern from this heat wave will be not only its intensity, but also its duration - with inland valleys, deserts, mountains and even coastal areas all anticipating excessive heat every day from Tuesday through Sunday next week. For many locations, this event will mark the first major, protracted heat wave of the year. Some of the hottest temperatures are forecast to peak on Wednesday, but remaining high for each day after through Labor Day weekend. The summer of 2022 so far had also seen a significant heat wave in late June, as well as an extended period of above-average temperatures throughout most of August that was associated with abundant monsoonal moisture.
