Above normal heat set to end by next weekend

Posted August 22, 2010, 11:07 PM.

A run of summer heat that's persisted since August 15th should wind down later this week in the inland valleys.

The latest forecasts from the National Weather Services call for temperatures ranging from the lower 90's in Fallbrook and De Luz, to the upper 90's in Temecula and Murrieta, and near 105°F in Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Hemet, Riverside and Moreno Valley through about Thursday.

After high pressure wanes Thursday, a quick cool down is expected into next weekend, and the weather is predicted to stay below normal for a while, like it has for much of the summer.

During the recent heat wave, Lake Elsinore and Menifee have recorded eight straight days over 100°F. Wildomar is currently at nine straight days over triple digits. Hemet has recorded six days over 100°F; Perris' and Murrieta's tallies are three; Moreno Valley two.

Despite the recent run of heat, average high temperatures for August generally remained below normal in the inland valleys. Murrieta, Temecula, Lake Elsinore and Menifee were still one degree below average. Riverside, Fallbrook and De Luz were two degrees below normal. Hemet was at seasonal norms.
