Low snow levels possible Monday night

By Reginald Stanley. Posted January 25, 2021, 7:06 PM.

A very cold storm is leaving freezing temperatures, wind, and potential for low snow levels Monday night as the system departs to the east.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Inland Empire and San Diego County valleys, through 6 AM Tuesday morning. This type of advisory is normally restricted to the mountains and high deserts, where snow is expected to fall or accumulate. While residual moisture from the storm is gradually diminishing Monday evening, some showers may still remain as temperatures plummet into near-freezing ranges, allowing for the possibility of snow showers above 2,000 feet. In the Inland Empire, snow showers could occur as low as 1,500 feet above sea level overnight. The eastern valleys, including Hemet and San Jacinto, have already observed freezing temperatures Monday evening. Significant snow accumulation is occurring above 4,000 feet. Remaining showers are forecast to give way to mostly sunny skies Tuesday.
