First storm of March leaves sporadic or no rainfall

An overnight cold front left between zero and a fifth of an inch of rainfall in the inland valleys Thursday.

Rainfall was heaviest to the north and the south, leaving the central areas of Riverside County essentially dry.

To the south, Fallbrook led the way among WeatherCurrents stations with 0.19". De Luz got 0.09", and Temecula got 0.05".

A contributing weather station in the Temecula Valley Wine Country also received 0.05" (courtesy of Jim Sappington).

To the north, Riverside and Moreno Valley recorded 0.13", and Perris received 0.10".

Lake Elsinore recorded 0.03" and Menifee and San Jacinto registered 0.01". No measurable rainfall fell in Murrieta, Wildomar, French Valley or Hemet.

A follow-up storm for the weekend was predicted to be stronger, with the chance of rain increasing Saturday, and showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms on Sunday. Estimated totals from the upcoming storm were expected to be up to a half of an inch.

Precipitation totals were already above the average entire rain season in Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Menifee and Temecula. Hemet and Fallbrook were closing in on their average years.

The rain season runs from July 1st through June 30th.
