Labor Day Fire in Wine Country Destroys Home (updated)

A 200 acre fire in the Temecula Valley Wine Country Monday afternoon destroyed a home and burned 200 acres. The home apparently contained unspecified hazardous materials, prompting the Riverside County Fire Department to warn surrounding residents to stay inside. The fire burned near Lake Skinner, at East Benton Road and Bella Vista Road. East Benton Road was restricted to residents only. As of 6:15pm, the fire was 50% contained. Full containment was expected Tuesday morning. Smoke from the fire was clearly visible Monday evening from most areas in the Temecula Valley. The fire apparently started at 1:14pm when a weed eater struck a rock, sparking the fire. The Bella Fire, as it was named, was the second fire in two weeks in the Lake Skinner area, following a grass fire in French Valley August 27th.
