Light showers possible Tuesday afternoon and evening, Thanksgiving sunny and dry, frost threat

Posted November 23, 2010, 7:13 AM.

Another cold storm is approaching from the north today, and should lead to some light showers and gusty winds this afternoon and evening in the inland valleys. Cold nights and cool days will follow the storm, through Thanksgiving Day.

The latest predictions from the National Weather Service are for between 0.10" and 0.20" as the storm rolls quick through the region. As of early morning Tuesday, rain was already approaching Santa Barbara County. Much of the precipitation looks to stay to the north of us.

By Wednesday evening, offshore flow is predicted to settle in, and it will pull in a cool airmass from the east. Frost is possible in prone spots Thursday morning, the first of the season, and temperatures could fall to near freezing in many communities.

Although Thanksgiving Day looks warmer than Wednesday, temperatures will only rise to the upper 50's to lower 60's. Friday finally looks somewhat warmer, but not before another cold night Thursday with frost again a threat in prone areas.

Details for a follow-on storm Sunday are still in the works.
