May finishes cooler than normal in inland valleys; June could be warmer

The month of May was a few degrees cooler than it normally is, with a greater than normal number of low pressure systems coming through and no significant heat waves.

The warmest days, in fact, occurred over Memorial Day weekend.

The latest Climate Prediction Center predictions for June show a 33% greater than normal chance of warmer weather, but normal conditions for the second and third week of the month.

In Temecula, the average high for May was 74°F, compared to a normal high of 78°F. Murrieta's average high was 75°F compared to a normal high of 78°F.

Fallbrook came in at 72°F versus 75°F normally; Lake Elsinore 80°F versus 84°F normally; Hemet 79°F versus a normal 81°F; San Jacinto 77°F versus a normal 80°F; and Menifee 79°F as opposed to 83°F normally.

De Luz recorded an average high of 70°F, lower than the normal 73°F.

In the Riverside area, Perris's average high was 78°F versus a normal 81°F; Riverside's average high was 76°F versus a normal 79°F; and Moreno Valley's average high was 77°F versus a normal 80°F.

Wildomar's average high was 81°F; French Valley 74°F.

May's results continued mainly below normal temperatures that have been persistent all year to date in the inland valleys.
