Storm totals: December 29th, 2010 (updated)

Posted December 30, 2010, 11:37 AM.

A cold winter storm whisked through Wednesday, and soaked the already wet Southern California inland valleys with rain that totaled over an inch in some communities.

Ground was already wet from three storms and a week and a half of wet weather that only let up for Christmas.

But few problems were reported in Riverside and San Diego counties. A stretch of Mockingbird Canyon Road in Woodcrest up near Riverside was closed from from previous storm damage. Some mud was reported on Highway 91 in the Santa Ana Canyon west of Corona. And there were a couple of power outages in San Jacinto during the storm.

East San Jacinto (1.27") and East Hemet (1.13") recorded the highest totals for the latest storm. Monty Parrot of East San Jacinto described the storm as steady rain, ranging from light to moderate, with heavy showers in the afternoon.

Fallbrook (1.12") and De Luz (1.11") also recorded totals over an inch. Rainfall was also heavy in San Jacinto (0.94"), Lake Elsinore (0.87"), and Temecula (0.74", 0.81" in the wine country).

Riverside (0.47") recorded the least amount, followed by Murrieta (0.49").

Predictions before the storm were for about a half an inch, and for mountain snow down to 4,000 feet.

Temperatures remained chilly in the wake of the storm, with highs for Thursday predicted for the upper 40's to middle 50's inland.

The next storm is a cutoff low, and is currently predicted to meander ashore Sunday night. Light showers are predicted in what might be the first rainfall of 2011.
