Triple Storm Threat Begins Saturday, Band of Light Showers Friday

Posted April 22, 2005, 10:50 AM.

A cutoff low, the first of perhaps three storms in the region over the next week, is predicted to bring moderate rainfall to most of Southern California by Saturday afternoon. A band of light, scattered showers from the storm is passed over the area Friday morning and afternoon, and WeatherCurrents' seven local weather stations began recording precipitation around 3pm today.

Forecasters are predicting a quiet period after this afternoon's band of light showers through Saturday morning, when the chance of showers is expected to begin to increase. Measurable rainfall chances are currently at 60% for Saturday afternoon.

Rainfall predictions from the storm have been increasing as it gets closer. The cutoff low has acquired subtropical moisture, and as a result is getting more potent. Current predictions are for between 0.25" and 0.50" of rainfall.

The second storm is currently scheduled to arrive Wednesday night and could last through Friday. The third storm may arrive the following weekend.
