Posted May 2, 2011, 10:58 PM.

With a three-day round of offshore winds winding down Monday, a heat wave is set to give Southern California's inland valleys a summer preview through the middle of the week.

Peak wind gusts Monday were 36 mph in Perris, 34 mph in Menifee, 27 mph in Temecula, 21 mph in Moreno Valley, 20 mph in Riverside and Fallbrook, and 18 mph in San Bernardino and French Valley.

Gusts were as high as 38 mph in some locations on Saturday.

As of Monday evening, predicted highs for Wednesday were 98°F in Lake Elsinore and Riverside, 97°F in Wildomar and Menifee, 96°F in Temecula and San Bernardino, 95°F in Hemet, Murrieta and Moreno Valley, 93°F in Beaumont, 92°F in De Luz, and 90°F in Fallbrook.

The predicted temperatures, if they come to pass, would make Wednesday the warmest day of the year to date.

Gradual cooling was expected for the second half of the week, winding down to a mild weekend.
