Busy week for monsoons

By Reginald Stanley. Posted August 3, 2017, 4:03 PM.

Monsoonal moisture swept the region beginning Tuesday, producing thunder, lightning, and sporadic heavy rain.

The majority of WeatherCurrents stations have recorded rainfall over at least one the first three days of August. Measurable totals have ranged from 0.02 inches in San Jacinto to as high as 0.87 inches in Perris. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, contributor Jim Sappington reported an even higher 0.89 inches over the last three days. In East Highland, Peter Michas reported 0.50 inches. In East San Jacinto, Monty Parrott reported 0.05 inches - close to the nearby WeatherCurrents station's total. For many WeatherCurrents stations, this week's rain was the first measurable rain of the 2017-18 season. The National Weather Service has issued Flash Flood Watches for much of the Inland Empire, which will last through Thursday evening.

Thursday looks to be the final days of thunderstorms for a while as drier air from the southwest moves in. Overnight temperatures were kept well above normal by high humidity associated with the monsoonal moisture. Temperatures are expected to return to near normal by the weekend.
