Isolated Thunderstorms Affects Inland Communities Monday; More Coming

Posted August 26, 2008, 8:05 AM.

A ripple of isolated thunderstorms hit some inland communities Monday afternoon, although none of the 11 WeatherCurrents stations recorded rainfall.

Rain was reported in Sun City and in Eastern Hemet and San Jacinto.

Monty Parrot in East San Jacinto reported 0.18" of rainfall, as well as thunder and lightning. Others reported heavy rain and flooding at Hemet High School.

In Sun City, rain reportedly fell around 12:30pm for about 20 minutes, according to a report from Katy Parkhurst, a Sun City resident.

Monsoonal moisture had pushed up from the south on Monday and generated the thunderstorms. Some areas in San Diego County also had rainfall Monday.

According to forecasts, thunderstorms are also possible for the rest of the week, peaking on Thursday and Friday, as partly cloudy conditions are expected to continue. Heat which had reached triple digits in many areas Sunday and Monday was anticipated to be reduced a few degrees.

The best chances of rainfall were predicted for the San Jacinto Valley, Moreno Valley, and the Perris and Temecula Valleys.
