Heat wave on the way

Posted September 22, 2010, 4:18 PM.

A big warm up is coming to the Southern California region as fall begins, and is expected to bring temperatures in the inland valleys into triple digits by this weekend.

According to the latest predictions from the National Weather Service, it will be hot by Friday, and into triple digits everywhere in the WeatherCurrents communities by Saturday, except for Fallbrook and De Luz. The heat is slated to peak on Sunday and Monday.

Some sample predicted high for Monday are 109°F in Lake Elsinore, 108°F in Riverside, 104°F in Hemet and Temecula, and 98°F in Fallbrook.

A strong high pressure system is expected to expand over the region, and weak offshore flow is expected to develop. There's not any concern of Santa Ana winds yet, although we're entering that season.

Fall's hot start will last into the middle of next week, with only slight cooling following Monday's peak. Longer term, conditions should be much cooler towards the end of next week.

October is looking to be cooler than normal.
