Seasonal Rainfall Approaching All-Time Records
Posted March 23, 2005, 7:35 AM

It's now the second wettest rain season in recorded history in southern California, according to rainfall records in downtown Los Angeles and San Diego.
Records for southwestern Riverside County are not available, but the record for rainfall in Fallbrook, dating back to the 1976/1977 rain season, is 36.85" in 1992/1993. Rainfall from WeatherCurrents' Fallbrook weather station is just over one inch short of the record, within reach. The Fallbrook rainfall records were recorded by George F. Emerich.
The second wettest rain season in Los Angeles had been 1889/1890, with 34.84", a total that was surpassed yesterday evening. The wettest year is 1883/1884, with 38.18". That record now appears unlikely to fall unless rain this spring is somewhat above normal.
Rainfall for March remained below normal in inland areas. Normal March rainfall in most valley areas is between 2.5" and 3". |
