Most of Western Riverside County Begins Wednesday in the 20's; Station Records Fall in Lake Elsinore, Riverside and De Luz

Another cold morning Wednesday resulted in frost and freezing temperatures, with many areas in western Riverside County below 30°F, including WeatherCurrents stations in Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore and the Menifee Valley. Some of the newer WeatherCurrents stations, including Lake Elsinore at 29.2°F, Riverside at 35.1°F and De Luz at 37.3°F, set new records for cold. Lake Elsinore's and De Luz's records were only one day old. Temecula's 28.8°F Wednesday morning was the coldest temperature of 2006. Murrieta and Fallbrook set station records Tuesday morning. Fallbrook, De Luz and the Canyon Crest area of Riverside, as well as the Hemet location in Valle Vista, are traditionally warmer during the winter. In the case of Hemet, much of the San Jacinto Valley was likely in the upper 20's at dawn Wednesday. The coldest temperature recorded by a WeatherCurrents station remains 25.4°F, recorded in Temecula on January 30, 2002. |
