Weekend Featured Summer Days In Spring

Posted April 27, 2008, 4:16 PM.

The second (and probably last) heat wave of this April hit this past weekend in Southern California, with most inland areas topping 90°F both Saturday and Sunday. In many areas in Riverside and northern San Diego counties both weekend days felt like they were in the middle of the summer.

At 96.1°F, Riverside (in the Canyon Crest area) topped the eleven WeatherCurrents stations on Sunday, closely followed by De Luz at 95.6°F, Fallbrook at 95.2°F, Lake Elsinore at 94.9°F and Temecula at 94.6°F.

The coolest maximum temperatures Sunday were recorded in San Jacinto (88.0°F), Perris (89.1°F), Moreno Valley (90.0°F) and Hemet (90.1°F).

Sunday began with relatively warm morning temperatures as Santa Ana winds blew through the region. Many low temperatures this morning were in the 60's, with some areas near 70°F. De Luz was the warmest this morning at 68.8°F, followed by Perris at 67.8°F and Fallbrook at 67.5°F.

Wrong way wind gusts were 31 mph in Temecula, 27 mph in Perris, 24 mph in San Jacinto, and 23 mph in Sun City and Moreno Valley.

On Saturday, Temecula, Lake Elsinore and De Luz topped the WeatherCurrents communities with 95°F each.

Some high clouds had crept over the inland valleys Sunday afternoon, leading to partly cloudy conditions in some communities. Despite the clouds, temperatures remained stubbornly high in all areas late Sunday afternoon.

Conditions were expected to be cooler Monday as onshore flow begins to take over, and afternoon temperatures were predicted to be nearly 20°F cooler on Tuesday.
