Storm Totals: November 29th-30th, 2018

By Reginald Stanley. Posted December 1, 2018, 12:27 AM.

A Pacific storm, aided by subtropical moisture, delivered the most widespread significant rain to the region since mid-January.

Predictions of storm totals ranging between 1/2 inch and 1.5 inches were mostly met, some communities even exceeded these amounts. The majority of rain fell throughout Thursday, with residual showers continuing in some areas through mid-morning Friday. Temecula led storm totals with 1.84 inches, followed closely by nearby Temecula Valley Wine Country with 1.81 inches (courtesy of Jim Sappington). A total of 1.80 inches was reported in Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer). De Luz and Fallbrook, both typically wet locations, observed totals of 1.78 inches and 1.73 inches respectively. In East Highland, 1.46 inches was also reported (courtesy of Peter Michas). Totals for WeatherCurrents' stations in Moreno Valley and Riverside (Orangecrest) are believed to be inaccurate due to likely rain gauge clogs.

Pinon Hills, as well as parts of the eastern valleys, were on the drier side of the storm, however remaining above the predicted 1/2 inch minimum. Snow levels reportedly fell to roughly 5500 feet above sea level. An additional shortwave trough may bring light showers late Saturday night. A potentially significant storm may be due to arrive around Wednesday next week.
