Thunderstorms west of the mountains again Thursday afternoon

By Reginald Stanley. Posted August 30, 2013, 12:06 PM.

Yet another round of thunderstorms made it west of the mountains Thursday afternoon, this time Riverside being the hardest hit. WeatherCurrents' station in Riverside's Canyon Crest neighborhood recorded 0.57" inches Thursday afternoon. Flooding was also reported in Downtown Riverside. The downpour did not extend to all areas of Riverside and the vicinity, however - WeatherCurrents' station in Riverside's Presidential Park, only several miles west of Canyon Crest and Downtown, did not record any measurable rainfall.

Rain also fell in other parts of the inland empire, particularly in the eastern valleys as well as San Bernardino. 0.16" was recorded in East Hemet, and 0.03" fell in nearby East San Jacinto (courtesy of Monty Parrott). Jim Sappington reported 0.08" in Temecula Valley's Wine Country, although rain did not fall in the Temecula Valley itself. Further to the east, Anza recorded 0.02". San Bernardino recorded 0.04". Peter Michas recorded a total of 0.02" in East Highland.

Monsoonal moisture will continue chances of thunderstorms or showers west of the mountains Friday. Humidity and cloud cover associated with the tropical moisture are responsible for the recent very warm nights. Our weather looks to dry out over the weekend as tropical influence decreases over the region.
