Santa Ana winds selective again; light showers by Monday?

Posted January 28, 2011, 12:14 AM.

Offshore winds came once again Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, like they have several times this month, to the inland valleys.

The lastest round should be the last for a week, as low pressure and onshore flow take over the weekend. A chance of light showers Sunday night and Monday morning would be the first rainfall in a few weeks, if it materializes.

As before the results were mild in most communities and moderate in others.

WeatherCurrents' Temecula station reported the highest peak gust at 36 mph Wednesday in the 10pm hour. Winds there gusted consistently from 4pm Wednesday to 3am Thursday, then picked up again Thursday afternoon.

Other significant high gusts were reported in Riverside (32 mph Wednesday afternoon) San Jacinto (peaking at 31 mph Wednesday evening), Perris (27 mph Wednesday afternoon), Menifee (22 mph max), Fallbrook (21 mph), and Moreno Valley (20 mph peak).

Wildomar, De Luz and Hemet (Valle Vista) did not have gusts of more than 10 mph through the period.

The next period of offshore flow currently looks to be around the middle of next week.
