First Santa Ana Winds of Season Predicted Monday; Fire Danger High

Posted October 13, 2008, 6:14 AM.

Predicted relative humidities in the teens Monday and moderate to strong offshore flow was expected to lead to high fire danger.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag warning through Tuesday evening to highlight the fire weather.

Winds were already gusting Sunday night in the inland valleys, and were expected to peak Monday, with gusts of up to 35 mph in spots. Winds overnight peaked at 40 mph in Moreno Valley, 34 mph in Riverside, 22 mph in Murrieta, 21 mph in Lake Elsinore, 20 mph in Menifee and 10 mph in Temecula.

Wind sensors were not working correctly in San Jacinto, and data from the Wildomar station was out due to a computer failure.

Offshore winds were expected to weaken Tuesday morning, but weaker offshore flow was expected to continue through Thursday. Rising humidities Wednesday and Thursday were expected to help reduce the fire danger.
