Station Records Fall Saturday Afternoon Nearly Everwhere

Posted July 22, 2006, 4:45 PM.

Six of eight WeatherCurrents locations obliterated heat records Saturday afternoon, as temperatures rose above 110°F in the inland valleys.

In Temecula, an eight year old all-time record of 110.5°F dating back to September 29, 1999 fell. Prior to Saturday, that was the hottest temperature recorded by a WeatherCurrents station. Saturday afternoon, Fallbrook, De Luz, Riverside, Temecula, Lake Elsinore and Menifee Valley were hotter than the old 110.5°F standard, with De Luz the hottest at 113.5°F, and Lake Elsinore following at 113.4°F.

Information was not available from Murrieta Saturday due to an internet outage there.

Only the Temecula station has been in operation this entire decade. The high of 111.3°F was the hottest in more than eight years. Most of the other stations have been operating three years or less.

Saturday marked the fourth time this month that station records on one or more sites have fallen. Many of the records fell Friday only to be eclipsed Saturday.

Many communities also recorded their warmest lows ever this morning.
