Thunderstorms pop up across parts of Inland Empire this week

By Reginald Stanley. Posted September 5, 2019, 7:21 PM.

High pressure over the Four Corners region has contributed to the formation of conditions favorable for thunderstorm development across inland Southern California, with the most notable occurrences being confined to the mountains and deserts.

Most thunderstorm activity occurred in the afternoons and evenings, and sometimes at sunrise, primarily on Monday as well as Wednesday and Thursday. Since September 1st, 0.31 inches has fallen at WeatherCurrents' station in Anza - the highest total in the WeatherCurrents network this week. A notable total of 0.12 inches has also been reported in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington) since Monday. WeatherCurrents stations in Beaumont (Cherry Valley), French Valley, Hemet, Pinon Hills, and Wildomar each reported 0.02 inches this week. Lesser amounts of 0.01 inch were recorded in De Luz and northwest Murrieta.

The chance of thunderstorms decreases going into the weekend as low pressure moves inland, cooling temperatures somewhat and drying conditions out. Cooler temperatures, along with morning clouds, are expected to remain well into the following week.
