A summer-like heat wave this weekend produced the first 100°F+ temperatures west of the mountains yesterday, on Mother's Day.

Wildomar was the hottest with a high of 103.4°F, followed by Lake Elsinore with 102.1°F. Other areas that exceeded 100°F include both Riverside (Canyon Crest) and Moreno Valley with 101.4°F, Jurupa Valley at 100.3°F, Hemet with 100.2°F, and San Bernardino with 100.1°F.
Summer-like temperatures on the way for Sunday and Monday

Just a few days after a late-season storm, high pressure is revving up over Southern California, and it should make this weekend a clear and hot one in the inland valleys.
The middle part of Western Riverside County could see 100 degree heat, which would be the first of the year. Lake Elsinore, Wildomar and Menifee are currently predicted to top triple digits Sunday and Monday.
To the north, the Riverside and San Bernardino metros will also bake, with temperatures in the upper 90's. The south is expected to be slightly cooler.
The National Weather Service is recommending limiting outdoor strenuous activity during the afternoon, if possible.
Elsewhere in the region, marine layer and onshore flow will continue to play a role, especially at the coast, but even inland in places such as Fallbrook. Areas near the coast will be warm, however.
Mountain and pass areas will be near 90 degrees.
A cooling trend beginning Tuesday will bring temperatures back down to normal by the latter ...

One of two Riverside weather stations down

WeatherCurrents' Presidential Park station in Riverside is down since Thursday morning due to an equipment failure.
We'll likely diagnose the failure early next week, and should be able to determine if parts need to be ordered then.
We appreciate your patience, and in the meantime, please visit our other nearby local sites in Canyon Crest and Jurupa Valley

Storm Totals: May 5th-9th, 2013 (updated)

The recent late-season storm, courtesy of a cut-off low, produced widely variable rainfall across the inland communities. It was the first decent rain since March 9th for most areas in what has been a dry season.
The bulk of the storm arrived Monday morning in the form of moderate rain. Some heavier showers, accompanied by thunder and lightning, took place late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Storm totals ranged from as high as 0.77" in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington) to as low as just 0.05" in Lake Elsinore.
As of Thursday morning, clouds were still present as the low lingers before moving east. Thunderstorms are still a slight possibility in the mountains, deserts, the pass area, and inland valleys Thursday afternoon and evening.
Despite the rainfall, season totals remained well below normal for the 2012-2013 water year.
A significant warm-up is expected this weekend, as a high pressure ridge builds over the region. There is currently no indica ...

Dry period set to end this weekend

An extended period of dry weather, which included an extended cold spell and the more recent warm weather, will end this upcoming weekend, with a weather pattern change followed by the arrival of a couple of storms.
The latest weather models are showing a system arriving in Southern California Friday into Saturday. Clouds and cooling are the only certain prediction, though. It looks like most of the moisture for this storm will be in the mid and high levels, so only light precipitation is currently predicted. The models are not in agreement, however, so stay tuned for further details.
The second storm is poised to bring a period of light to moderate precipitation Sunday through perhaps Tuesday. Details and timing are uncertain; the weather models are further apart on the details than for Friday's system.
The last measurable rainfall fell in the region on January 10th, and this January remains much drier than normal.
