New WeatherCurrents station to serve City of Riverside, Riverside F.D.

By John Toman and Jim Purpura. Posted May 17, 2012, 8:36 AM.

In partnership with the City of Riverside, and Riverside Fire Department, WeatherCurrents will install a new weather observation station in the city this upcoming weekend.

The station, which will be located at the city's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on St. Lawrence Avenue, will observe weather conditions in the city at 1 minute intervals, making them available to the public on the WeatherCurrents.com web page.

The weather station is expected to help improve emergency planning and raise situational awareness at the EOC. "Having this weather station strategically placed at the City's Emergency Operations Center will insure real time weather information is available to emergency management staff 24 hours a day with which to base critical public safety decisions on," said Anthony Coletta, the Emergency Operations Manager with the City of Riverside's Fire Department.

The location is in Riverside's Presidential Park neighborhood, and will be the second WeatherCurrents station in the city. The Canyon Crest location was established in 2006.

WeatherCurrents forecasters, including John Toman and Meteorologist Jim Purpura, will provide daily, pinpoint, 7 day forecasts for the EOC. WeatherCurrents also takes observations and provides daily forecasts for Riverside Canyon Crest, Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, and 13 other locations in Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura Counties.

Data will also be sent hourly to the National Weather Service in San Diego, to provide information for their weather forecasts.
