Tuesday Morning Fire Update

Posted October 23, 2007, 6:14 AM.

The morning after a tragic day of fires and wind damage in Southern California, major fires were still burning in Fallbrook, in the San Diego area, in Orange County and in the San Bernardino mountains, to name a few spots.

As of yesterday evening, fire crews were attempting to hold the Rice Canyon Fire from moving further into Fallbrook. The Valley Oaks trailer park was completed destroyed in Fallbrook and the fire was near Gird and Live Oak Roads on Monday night. The northern extent of the fire was at East Mission Avenue.

A number of condos at the Pala Mesa Resort were also reported burned.

Interstate 15 remained closed from Temecula down to Highway 78 in Escondido Tuesday morning.

Another wildfire broke out west of Temecula Monday night near Rancho California and Sandia Creek Roads in the western De Luz area. The fire was reported at 50 acres burned and there were voluntary evacuations taking place Tuesday morning to the Temecula Recreation Center.

The Roca Fire in Aguanga, east of Temecula and south of Hemet, was 100% contained yesterday afternoon after burning 260 acres and destroying one structure. Another fire popped up in Aguanga late Monday near Sage and Powerline Roads and was quickly contained.

More information is available here on the Fallbrook fire from the North County Times.

The status of power outages in San Jacinto from Sunday night's sandstorm remained unknown Tuesday morning.
