September Ends Up Pretty Much Average

September, 2006 started with a number of hot days but when all was said and done, it ended up near the average for this decade, at least in Temecula, where records were available back to 1999.

The long term high in Temecula for September is 90°F; this year was 89.5°F. Likewise, the long term low in Temecula for September is 59°F; this year was 58.7°F.

Lake Elsinore was the hottest WeatherCurrents location in September, as it usually is, with an average high of 94.2°F. Other average high temperatures for September were 93.1°F in Menifee Valley, 91.3°F in Hemet, 91.2°F in Riverside, and 89.8°F in Murrieta. Fallbrook's average high was 84.8°F and De Luz's was 85.4°F.

The main weather anomaly of the month was a dust and wind storm that struck on September 6th. Hemet received 0.85" of rainfall, and reported flooding. South Temecula got 0.22".

Late September featured a couple of bouts with the seasonal Santa Ana winds. No major problems occurred in Riverside and San Diego counties, although other parts of Southern California experienced major wildfires.
